Homestay is the opportunity for a Canadian
family (Host Family) to accommodate International Students
and to assist them in setting into the local way of living.
Being a host family brings the responsibility to ensure
a safe and comfortable home for International Students
or Guests. The followings are the guidelines
for host families.
1. Provide a separate private bedroom for each student
with a bed, closet space and a desk where he/she can study.
2. Bathrooms may be shared, but each party's privacy is
to be respected at all time.
3. Provide three meals each day. Students may make their
own breakfast and lunch but dinner is normally prepared
by the Host Family. If you are unable to cook some evenings,
please let the student know in advance and leave food
for him/her to prepare.
4. A key to the promises is to be provided so that the
student may come and go as they wish.
5. Students should have access to laundry facilities to
wash and dry clothes. The student or host family can do
the laundry. There is no set rule here. Whatever works
out best for both parties.
6. Most students would like access to the Internet.
7. Provide a safe, friendly, nurturing, comfortable and
supportive environment.
8. Willing to set aside time to spend with the student.
Provide an atmosphere which will allow the student to
speak English in a natural and friendly environment.
9. Teach the students Canadian cultures and allow them
to participate in family activities if they wish.
10. Teach the student in how to use the public transit
system and there will be times when the Host Family will
have to help with transportation. |
